They may have only been playing the semi-professional Auckland City, but Bruno Lage and Orkun Kokcu still let their competitive sides take over.
The pair had an astonishing clash during Benfica‘s 6-0 Club World Cup win when the Turk was taken off early and new footage from behind the bench has shown Kokcu shouting “F*** you!” repeatedly towards his coach.
Lage was asked about the incident twice post-match and decided to answer his own questions in painful fashion.
A DAZN reporter asked: “What happened with Kokcu?”
To which Lage replied: “It’s the longest game of my career. I especially want to thank the fans, we played the best game we could. The temperature was very difficult in the first half. We created several chances, we could have scored more goals. The second half… two hours break.
“The team came out with dynamism. The substitutions are my decision. Regardless of who starts, we have to look at the game. We made several changes, we got a result that is good for us.”
The reporter tried again, asking: “What about Kokcu’s attitude?”
Lage evaded again, saying: “The most important thing is to see that those who came on helped the team a lot. Renato came on with a goal, he came on with energy. Dahl came on at half-time, with energy. Starting the game at midday was really difficult.”
Maybe we’ll never get an answer…
