If Atalanta are to pull of the greatest comeback in Champions League history, Bayern Munich are at least helping them to do so.
After the 6-1 first leg win way in Italy Bayern lost Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise through suspension with what looked like intentional yellow cards.
Now their list of absentees from the first leg has upped to five.
Both Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies were taken off before the second-half, having only just returned from long-term injuries.
Bayern have announced that Davies luckily only suffered a hamstring strain despite some worrying scenes, while Musiala needed a pain killing injection after suffering with his leg break in the summer.
As for goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, there was concern that he was in trouble after news came out that he had to go to hospital with blurred vision after a late clash of heads.
Thankfully, he was also OK to travel back to Munich with his teammates.
Yet all three are expected to be out for at least the next couple of games, which may leave Atalanta wishing the scoreline was a little tighter.
The road ahead for Bayern
The same can be said for the rest of the Bundesliga too, with Bayern’s league lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund standing at 11 points.
Bayer Leverkusen will at least be grateful, as they host the German champions this weekend and will now fancy their chances of three points in their chase for next season’s Champions League.
