Angel Di Maria is set to finally leave Benfica for Rosario Central, but his family won’t be going with him.
The 2022 World Cup winner has long been linked with a return home to his boyhood club, but his dream move was put in jeopardy by threats to his family earlier this year.
Now, though, A Bola reports that he has received enough guarantees over his safety that he’s happy to return for a six-month stint.
However, he will live in the capital of Buenos Aires, 300 kilometres from Rosario, and his wife and daughters will not come to Argentina with him.
Instead, they will move from Lisbon to Miami, ready for Di Maria’s return.
Rosario Central will not be the 36-year-old’s final club. He will play back home for six months before moving to Inter Miami for the 2025 MLS season.
Things all seem to be fitting into a perfect groove, with Di Maria then reuniting with Lionel Messi in Florida, perhaps replacing Luis Suarez who could retire at the end of 2024.
