Alvaro Arbeloa’s appointment as Xabi Alonso’s successor at Real Madrid continues to go down badly in the media.
The former defender, who’s yet to coach at first team level, isn’t popular in the Spanish media from his time at the Bernabeu.
Now adding to the dissent is fellow Spanish coach Oscar Garcia, a former Barcelona midfielder with vast experience in the dugout.
“Tactically speaking, from what little I’ve seen of Castilla, he’s not even worthy of licking Xabi Alonso‘s boots,” the former Celta Vigo, Brighton and Reims coach said.
“He’s going to surround himself with players who didn’t get along with Xabi Alonso.
“Even if the president (Florentino Perez) is on his side, we’ll see who has the most influence.
“For the president, who is more important: Vinicius or Arbeloa? He knows how the fans want him to play… but he’ll have to be very good to turn things around.”
Adding more fuel to the claims that Perez likes Arbeloa because he picked Jose Mourinho over his teammates, Garcia said: “He wants to be like Mourinho.
“The only reason he’s now the Real Madrid coach is because he only ever talks about Mourinho.”
