We get it Nasser Al-Khelaifi, you rate Luis Enrique.
The PSG president has yet again reiterated his support of his head coach, something he’s done almost non-stop since hiring the Spaniard in the summer of 2023.
Last season that was an easier and more understandable task when PSG won a treble and looked ready to finally win the Champions League before an unlucky semi-final loss to Borussia Dortmund.
This term, though, it’s all over the shop.
With their Ligue 1 lead evaporating and their Champions League status in doubt, there have been plenty of questions about Luis Enrique, who Al-Khelaifi has called the ‘best in the world’ twice this week.
The first time included the promise that he wouldn’t be sacked, and the second came after a 3-0 European win over Salzburg, just their second in six games.
It’s understood that Al-Khelaifi has a contract extension ready to be signed for his coach, and the constant fawning is starting to annoy people.
One of those is former France international Christophe Dugarry who gave his thoughts on RMC Sport.
“It’s unbearable,” he said. “With sentences that are taken out of context, that go against the grain. PSG has become a club that uses PR to try to sell you a product, a brand, a way of playing, which pleases some, which doesn’t please others, but they try to force it down your throat. It’s indigestible. This PSG is indigestible for many people.
“These are sentences that prove that you need to reassure yourself. You need to reassure yourself when you throw that in the face of supporters or journalists.
“If you really believe in it, you don’t need to say that. It’s not you who should say it. It’s others who should say it. Maybe people from outside. You hired him, you’re not going to say the opposite, you’re not going to stab yourself either.”
