No one’s feeling Ghana’s AFCON fumble more than Inaki Williams.

The Athletic Bilbao captain missed out on this winter’s tournament, and instead has to play in the Spanish Supercopa in Saudi Arabia.

Athletic face Barcelona in the four-team money grab on January 7th, but Williams would rather not be there.

“I’ve said it many times already, and I don’t mince words before speaking about these things. For me, playing in Saudi Arabia is rubbish,” he fumed to El Chiringuito.

“For the fans, it’s difficult to organise such a massive away trip. Over there, you feel like you’re playing away.”

He then explained why this trip is worse than the previous.

“In the next few days, I’m going to become a father, it’s hard to have to leave my wife and child here,” he added.

The last time Williams’ Athletic went to Saudi for the Supercopa for its last edition the striker was just as critical.

“It was like playing away today, even though there were a few fans,” he said at the time.

“It’s a shame such a great game was played so far away, because I think if it had been played closer, the stadium would have been full of many of our fans.

“For me, it makes no sense to play here in Saudi Arabia, but that’s how football works today.”
