Inter Milan player imitates monkey to racist fans but gets booked and substituted

Ebenezer Akinsanmiro

Despite some recent impressive uses of anti-racism protocol in Serie A, Brescia absolutely disgraced themselves in Serie B at the weekend.

In a 1-1 draw against Sampdoria at the Mario Rigamonti Stadium in Lombardy, the away side’s Inter Milan loanee Ebenezer Akinsanmiro was reportedly repeatedly subjected to racist abuse from Brescia supporters.

And after his team’s goal in the 33rd minute, he went to pick the ball out of the net, and began imitating the supporters’ chants by doing an impression of a monkey.

Rather incredibly, referee Davide Massa booked the 20-year-old Nigeran, and then his manager substituted him in the 41st minute.

If that wasn’t disgusting enough, Brescia’s manager Pierpaolo Bisoli then disgraced himself by criticising the player post-match.

“You can’t provoke the crowd like that. I’ve never heard anything like that before,” he said.

As things stand no action has been taken by the Italian FA, with the only outcome so far being a supportive post from Sampdoria.
