Borussia Dortmund fans may be getting their hopes up if Mario Basler is to be believed.

The long-time Bundesliga star and now TV pundit is backing a surprise candidate to manage the Westphalian team next season.

Current head coach Edin Terzic is under immense pressure during a poor season, and the club have already brought in Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender as assistants to work under him.

Reports in Turkey claim that Sahin will replace the head coach in the summer, but Basler has other ideas.

“I believe that Terzic will coach Borussia Dortmund to the end of the season,” he said. “After that, BVB will bring in another coach. The great trust in him is no longer there.”

“Julian Nagelsmann could fit. I know that Nagelsmann was already being discussed before he joined the national team but they waited too long.

“They actually wanted him last year in the phase when BVB didn’t play well and dropped a lot of points.

“That’s why I believe that Julian Nagelsmann will be coach at Borussia Dortmund next season.”
