Should Barcelona decide to sack Xavi this summer, club president Joan Laporta has a favourite in mind.

Xavi has now said in multiple press conferences that he is willing to leave at the end of the season if it ends trophyless.

That’s now looking very likely, with Barca exiting the Copa del Rey soon after a Supercopa de Espana defeat to Real Madrid.

The Catalans are through to the last 16 of the Champions League, but they’re seven points off the LaLiga lead.

That leaves Xavi’s future up in the air, with Laporta having to plan his next step.

Academy coach and former Barca defender Rafa Marquez has long been linked, however, Cadena SER claim there’s a name ahead on the list.

Thiago Motta is in fact the favourite to replace Xavi.

The Bologna manager, who played for Barca from 2001 to 2007 is massively impressing in Italy with a thrilling brand of football.

He’s also no stranger to revolutionising the game with new tactics, while he’s shown in press conferences that he certainly has the presence to deal with such a big club.
