AS Roma‘s sacking of Jose Mourinho has split the world of football.

The two-time Champions League winner has departed Serie A again after painful and lifeless back-to-back defeats against Lazio and Milan.

A Europa Conference League winner in Italy, Mourinho is much-heralded for his relationship with the fanbase and has publicly requested a new contract on multiple occasions.

Those pleas were not heard by club president Dan Friedkin, though, with the American instead deciding to make a change.

He’s now gone, though, and legendary Italian coach Fabio Capello is shocked.

“I think these American companies work without respecting the people they collaborate with,” he said.

“We saw it at Milan with Maldini and today in Trigoria with Mourinho. There is no sensitivity on their part, but only business.

“On the other hand, I think that respect is also needed, perhaps by reaching an agreement first and separately and not with a statement and a phone call.

“That something wasn’t working was clear from the fact that they didn’t respond to his requests. They treated him in the least respectful way and we are talking about one of the most important coaches in history.

“It also happened to me in Russia, where they warned me at the airport.”
