Girona may have a fight on their hands if they’re to keep star manager Míchel amid interest from football’s richest team.

The Spanish coach has been raising eyebrows across Europe since becoming the story of the season with his unexpected LaLiga title challengers.

Catalan minnows Girona currently sit second in Spain, but are level on points with leaders Real Madrid after a stunning start to the season.

Much of that has been credited to Míchel, with Girona playing a thrilling style of football and several star players have shown immense improvement under his stewardship.

Girona are members of the Manchester City-owned City Group, which has understandably seen him mentioned as a future replacement for Pep Guardiola.

However, other clubs may come sooner, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Newcastle and Lyon have both inquired about Míchel’s availability.

Lyon are battling relegation in France, but the Newcastle links are particularly interesting given their situation.

The Magpies are on their worst run of form since being purchased buy Saudi Arabia in April 2020, and manager Eddie Howe is under increasing pressure.

The Englishman has so far impressed in the dugout at St. James Park, but with seven defeats in eight games, things look like they won’t be getting easier any time soon.
