Valencia have announced the double firing of head coach Carlos Corberan and CEO Ron Gourlay.
The news comes two days after a 1-0 defeat to Sevilla left them rooted to the bottom of LaLiga with just one point from five games.
Corberan’s contract was only renewed a few months ago by Gourlay, but Valencia announced a ‘recession’ of the deal.
In their last match Valencia were battered 5-0 at home by Barcelona in a performance their coach Hansi Flick called near perfect.
There was controversy post-match when new star signing Rodri was lip-read on Movistar’s coverage calling Valencia ‘terrible’, ‘weak’, and ‘lazy’.
He’s since publicly apologised, but the words may well have had an impact on Valencia’s decision making given how little media spotlight the former giants now get.
Rodri apologises for Valencia comments
Rodri said: “I’d like to say a few words because the video from the other day has generated some controversy.
“In life, when you make a mistake, you have to admit it. I’d like to apologise to everyone who felt offended: Valencia players, the club, the fans…
“I’ve already spoken with my good friend and teammate Jose Gayá to apologise to him and the entire squad. I also want to make it clear that it was an expression of surprise, which anyone who watches the video can see.
“At no point did I try to mock or take the team’s poor form out of context. Personally, I hope Valencia gets back to where it belongs. That’s all I want to say.
“I would also like to clarify that it was a private conversation, and we should all learn that these things are sometimes taken out of context. So, my apologies to Valencia CF.”

Valencia CF announces that it has decided to terminate its contractual relationship with the CEO of Football, Ron Gourlay , as well as with the members of his team, Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andrés Zamora and Malek Shafei .
The decision is part of the Club’s desire to begin a new phase in its sporting structure and management of the football area.
Valencia CF would like to thank Ron Gourlay for the work he did during his time at the club.
Furthermore, Valencia CF has terminated the existing contract with Carlos Corberán and his first team coaching staff.
Carlos Corberán arrived at Valencia CF in December 2024 with the aim of leading the sporting project in a complex situation that he was able to reverse, and he has performed his duties with professionalism, passion and maximum commitment throughout 72 official matches.
The Club thanks the coach and all members of his coaching staff for their performance during their time leading the team.
The Club will soon announce the new structure of the football area and the configuration of the next sporting project.
On a temporary basis, Óscar Sánchez , coach of VCF Mestalla, will take charge of the first team.
The Club wants to convey a message of stability and confidence in the future, reaffirming its commitment to building a solid, competitive and sustainable sporting project.
