Sporting CP have lodged an official complaint to the Portuguese Football Association claiming their directors were threatened and assaulted by members of FC Porto‘s staff.
The Liga Portugal clash was one of the matches of the season with Porto 2-0 up against soon-to-be-crowned champions Sporting.
There was a party-like atmosphere at the Estádio do Dragão as Andre Villas-Boas had been voted the club’s new president a day earlier, but the parade was ended in stunning fashion by Viktor Gyökeres who scored twice in the final three minutes of the match to claim a draw.
A number of social media videos showed Porto fans directing abuse at Sporting president Frederico Varandas post-match. Varandas greeted the angry supporters with a wave and blew kisses, and then pointed at the rival box of departing president Pinto da Costa, an action that A Bola claim caused uproar.
SCP board member Rodrigo Pais de Almeida claims that Porto director Luís Gonçalves threatened to kill him during the skirmish, while fellow board member Alexandre Ferreira was shoved and kicked.
Responding to the claims, FC Porto told A Bola: “This entire episode is nothing more than a diversionary manoeuvre by the president of Sporting’s Board of Directors, Frederico Varandas, who behaved shamefully.”
