Robin van Persie’s unique approach to coaching continued in the wake of Feyenoord’s 2-0 defeat to FC Twente.
The Eredivisie giants saw their Champions League hopes take a blow and a season of torrid form continue against one of their European rivals.
In fact, it was worse than that, the defeat away in Enschede was not only comprehensive, but saw teammates turn on each other as Luciano Valente and Jordan Bos got in a heated exchange.
Asked about the moment post-match, Van Persie saw it as one of just a few positives.
“I’m not shocked by that, quite the opposite,” he said in response.
“I think it’s actually very good to speak out strongly when someone isn’t doing their job. It makes me happy.
“I understand that it can be perceived differently if you lose, but when you win, you hear: ‘Well, that team is doing well, they’re not afraid to speak out.’
“So maybe next week we’ll have a different conversation.”
Van Persie then went on to be more measured about a terrible performance from his team.
“We created two good chances with Hadj Moussa and Moder. But after that, it became very sloppy and very poor, especially in the build-up,” he added.
“If you look at playing and winning duels, it also comes down to freshness and timing. We were below par in that respect today.
“You see that happen in small moments. You have to follow your man, get in the way, or block, but that happened far too little.”
