Images are being released of rioting ahead of Atletico Madrid’s hosting of Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals.
The two sides faced off at the Metropolitano and the host’s team bus received a raucous reception.
Yet as soon as Diego Simeone and his squad drove into the stadium, there were chaotic scenes outside.
Marca captured police charging fans and appearing to pepper spray them.
Perhaps in an effort to justify their actions, the police then released thermal images of the start of the conflict.

Once the bus had passed flares could be seen being thrown from the crowd at police officers on horse back who then responded.
Marca wrote in their report: “The spectacular welcome given to Atlético de Madrid fans before their match against Arsenal was marred by police violence.
“The team bus, which slowly approached the stadium, was accompanied by chants and flares until the very last moment.
“But upon its arrival at the stadium, the fans began charging and throwing objects.
“These were tense moments in which the police had to use pepper spray and disperse the most radical fans.”
