Two newly naturalised Indonesian Eredivisie players have caused rival clubs to request replays.
Both Dean James of Go Ahead Eagles and Nathan Tjoe-A-On of Willem II recently received Indonesian passports and may no longer be eligible for their teams.
Go Ahead first beat NAC Breda 6-0 in the top flight, and their opponents requested an investigation from the Dutch football association [KNVB].
They question whether Dutch passport is still valid following his naturalisation and have consulted lawyers who believe it is not.
That means the 25-year-old defender may not have had the necessary word permit to play the game as he would no longer count as an EU player.
However, James made his Indonesian debut in March 2025, with it surely impossible that all games he’s featured in since then be invalidated or replayed.
The situation is similar for Tjoe-A-On in the second tier, with TOP Oss filing a complaint after a recent defeat.
In response, the KNVB said: “This matter is naturally being carefully studied.
“This is currently being done first by the prosecutor for professional football.
“This concerns a complex case with multiple dimensions. This takes time.
“During this ongoing investigation, the professional football competition board does not intend to declare matches invalid or have them replayed this season.
“A final decision will be made after the prosecutor has completed his investigation.’
