Jose Mourinho spoke to the media for the first time since his infamous Vinicius Jr comments, well sort of.
The Benfica coach received plenty of criticism across the footballing world by claiming that Vinicius incited the crowd before the Real Madrid star alleged racist abuse from Gianluca Prestianni.
His comments after the 1-0 Champions League defeat were condemned by huge names such as Vincent Kompany and Thierry Henry.
Ahead of facing AFS in the Primeira Liga, Mourinho ducked out of his ninth pre-match press conference of the season, instead just telling the club’s TV channel it had been a difficult week.
Speaking after a 3-0 win, the media were able to question Mourinho, or so they thought.
The first question at the press conference was if his comments were wrong.
“I don’t want to comment,” Mourinho responded before Benfica’s press officer cut in.
Gonçalo Guimarães said: “Just a note regarding this matter.
“I understand the curiosity, but there is an ongoing UEFA investigation and, therefore, manager José Mourinho is not available to answer questions on this topic or make further comments until further notice.”
Mourinho then added: “I repeat that it has been difficult for everyone, but I’m not going to specify the level of difficulty now. Difficult for everyone.
“But today, they and I were able to be professional and do our job in the best way we could.”
