Benfica kept their faint Primeira Liga title hopes alive on Friday, but almost had to do it without Jose Mourinho.
The 2-1 win over Santa Clara in the Azores kicked off at 18:30pm, and earlier in the day Mourinho was forced into an impromptu hospital trip.
A Bola report that the 2010 European treble winner was admitted to the Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo in Ponta Delgada just hours before kick off.
The 63-year-old woke up with a painful ear infection which was treated before he was given medication and returned to the team hotel.
Playing away at Santa Clara is the worst place for such an ailment during the season, with the Azores islands a massive 1400kilometres and a three-hour flight from Portugal’s capital.
