Thibaut Courtois’ astonishing display for Real Madrid against Stuttgart has seen him given the highest plaudits possible.
The Belgian was at his unbeatable best yet again in the Champions League, ensuring a 3-1 victory when Madrid certainly weren’t at their best.
Pulling off a string of jaw-dropping saves, it was yet another match where the Belgian left rivals and pundits with their heads in their hands.
Understandably, the debate over the modern great has reached new heights, with radio station Cadena SER asking if he could be even better than their long-time captain Iker Casillas.
AS editor-in-chief Thomas Roncero said: “It’s like Real Madrid playing with 12… we have two goalkeepers,” while journalist Dani Garrido took things to another level, saying: “He is the best goalkeeper I have ever seen.”
Álvaro Benito was in agreement, adding: “Iker has had magical moments of saving our lives, but I have never seen a goalkeeper at this level.”
But Alfredo Relaño held back a little, adding: “We have to wait for him to retire and look at it from a different perspective.”
Well it’s still going to be a while until Courtois retires, and by then Casillas might struggle to make a case.
