Carlo Ancelotti made surprise at his latest Brazil press conference by naming a member of his final World Cup squad.
The legendary Italian has until mid-May to announce his 26-man list, but already has one place sealed.
Speaking before facing Croatia in a friendly, he said:” Danilo is a very important player, not only on the field, but also off it.
“He can play in any of the back positions.
“He’ll definitely be on the final 26-man list. It’s a pleasure to watch him, his character, his personality, and his style of play.
“Danilo will be among the nine defenders.”
Danilo previously played for Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, but just after the Italian left.
Despite winning big trophies, he struggled in Spain, eventually joining Manchester City and later Juventus, two sides where he was far more integral.
Leaving Juventus in 2025, Danilo returned home to Flamengo where he has won even more honours, and now will attempt to win Brazil‘s sixth World Cup.
Danilo in, but no Neymar?
Ancelotti also spoke about Neymar’s absence, with numerous teammates and Brazil legends pleading with the coach for a recall.
“I hear everything. It’s normal,” he said.
“In football, everyone has an opinion. It’s not an exact science. I have to respect everyone’s opinion.”
