Borussia Dortmund have announced that their most experienced player, Julian Brandt, will be leaving for free this summer.
CEO Lars Ricken announced that the 30-year-old will depart after a 2-1 win over Koln.
“There have already been a few reports,” Ricken began. “The fact is that there were open discussions and it was agreed that the expiring contract would not be extended.
“He’s played a few hundred games for Borussia Dortmund. I think we can only be grateful to him.
“He played for us for seven years and was sometimes viewed critically. Today he also provided an assist.
“I loved his record. He’ll be 30 in a few weeks, we can reorient ourselves a bit, so this can be an opportunity for both sides.”

The right call for Kovac
Head coach Niko Kovac added: “Both sides have come to the conclusion that something else is in store. Therefore, we will successfully complete the next nine games with Jule.
“We decided this together. Ultimately, it involves the lad, Jule, then of course our sporting director, board member for sport, and the coach. We speak with one voice.”
Brandt joined BVB in 2019 from Bayer Leverkusen for €25million and is two games short of 300 appearances.
That puts him 18th on the iconic club’s all-time list, and 78 ahead of the next closest teammate, Emre Can.
