Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro thinks it’s time to curb Premier League spending.
Leverkusen lost Florian Wirtz in the summer in a Bundesliga record sale of €135million.
However, it’s not that deal that’s caused concern, but instead them being outbid on wages for stalwart Granit Xhaka by the newly-promoted Sunderland.
Carro said in response: “The Premier League is trying to become the flagship product in Europe, even ahead of the Champions League.
“I’m usually against regulations, but I think we have to fight for this.
“We tried to buy a player and, in the end, a Premier League team was able to pay more and offer a higher salary than us, a team in the German top four.”
