Radja Nainggolan may have only played under Roberto Martinez six times, but it was enough for him to make his mind up.
Martinez previously led Nainggolan’s Belgium before heading to Portugal where his side will be one of the 2026 World Cup favourites.
At Belgium he stopped calling up Nainggolan to his team, something which the Lokeren-Temse admits was down to him, but also Martinez.
“I didn’t have the impact I could have had,” he said on a podcast. “It wasn’t entirely my fault.
“Marc Wilmots didn’t start me in Euro 2016, even though I was one of the best players at the time.
“Then, Roberto Martínez stopped calling me up for no reason at all. His reasons seem absurd to me.
“In my opinion, he’s not a football expert and he’s a terrible coach.
He continued: “Anyone who says he’s a good coach doesn’t understand anything about football.
“A good coach is someone who gives the team an idea, and with Roberto Martínez, Belgium never had that.
“Whenever we were in trouble, the solution came from the individual qualities of Kevin De Bruyne, Hazard, or Lukaku.
“We never had a defined style of play. And that’s the pure truth. De Bruyne played as a striker when he wanted to play in midfield, but the coach insisted.
“I think Belgium could have won titles if they had invested in a good coach, even if only once.”
