John Textor says he ‘will die at Botafogo’ amid reports he’ll be ousted

John Textor’s popularity continues to hit new lows with news that there is an attempted coup in Botafogo.

The controversial former Crystal Palace majority owner and Lyon president kept plenty of favour with Botafogo having won a league and Copa Libertadores double for their best-ever season.

However, patience is wearing thin this season and he is reportedly in conflict with the Brazilian club’s social branch, chaired by Joao Paulo Magalhaes Lins (who owns 10% of the club).

Magalhaes Lins is even said to have met with executives from the multi-club Eagle ownership group with a view to ousting Textor.

In response, Textor has now told GloboEsporte: “This information is based on nothing.

“It is impossible to organize an Eagle meeting without my participation. There will soon be changes within this group, but I will stay.

“The shareholders will continue to support us. I said I wanted to die at this club and I will die at Botafogo.

“I don’t know if that means I’ll be the leader forever, I don’t know how many years of such intensity a human being can endure, but Eagle Football will continue to support this great club, and the fans don’t have to worry.

“We have dirty laundry to wash, like a family, but we will overcome this ordeal no matter what.”
