Lionel Messi isn’t much of a talker, so it’s no wonder that his famous dig at Wout Weghorst is now part of footballing folklore.
Messi iconically lit up social media after a 2022 World Cup quarter-final win over the Netherlands, winning on penalties after Weghorst scored two dramatic late goals to force extra time.
Eventual champions Argentina would win the game in a shoot-out, but an incredibly techy and aggressive match spilt into the tunnel afterwards.
Weghorst, clearly gutted his two goals came to nothing, was reportedly looking for Messi after, who was conducting an interview.
Turning to the lofty Ajax striker, he shouted: “Qué mirá, bobo?” which loosely translates to “What are you looking at, clown?”
So iconic was the phrase, that residents of Buenos Aires are trying to get a street renamed in its honour.
A banner has gone up on Avenida Carabobo in the capital city with a QR code that takes those interested to a change.org page.

The petition already has over 1500 signatures, and features the following statement.
We propose renaming this street “Qué mirá, bobo?” in honour of a moment that defined the 2022 Qatar World Cup and left the entire world with a smile on their face… except for the fool in question.
Because if there is one thing that unites us as a country, apart from football, it is the art of saying things head on, with the honesty and humour that characterises us. Let us imagine together a neighbourhood where every corner recalls that spirit.
GPS saying: “Turn left at Qué mirá’, bobo.” Eternal selfies next to the street sign. National pride on every corner.
Let’s join forces so that our grandchildren can say: “My grandfather fought for this street to be named that way.”
Can you imagine passing by Qué mirá’ bobo every day? It’s more than just a name: it’s a reminder of our determination, our history and our love for football.
