Austria manager Ralf Rangnick has condemned three of his players over homophobic chanting.

Rapid Vienna trio Niklas Hedl, Marco Grüll and Guido Burgstaller were seen joining in with an offensive song after a 3-0 win over city rivals Austria Vienna.

As a result, their national coach has dropped them from the squad for upcoming friendlies against Slovakia and Turkey.

The former Manchester United and Schalke manager didn’t hold back in his criticism, saying: “They’re stupid.

“This is something that I will not tolerate in a team where I am a coach – whether at club level or here with the national team.

“Their return for Euro 2024 depends on the boys showing what they really think and what their state of mind is, a lip service apology is not enough.

“I expect them to take this issue seriously and understand what it means for people if they are publicly insulted and discriminated against in such a way.”
