Porto’s veteran captain Pepe saw red for a petulant punch in a 2-0 defeat to Sporting.
The top-of-the-table clash saw Ruben Amorim’s Lisbon side regain their Primeira Liga lead at home thanks to goals from Viktor Gyökeres and Pedro Gonçalves.
In between the game’s only goals, Pepe received a straight red in the 51st minute when his hand struck Matheus Reis in the face.
Gyökeres had just handled the ball, and Pepe was waiting for a free kick when Reis interfered.

However, his hand quite clearly hit the midfielder, who was left with blood dripping from his lips, making it easy for VAR to recommend a red card.
The result moves Sporting back to the top of the table, a point ahead of Benfica, with Porto two further behind.
