Vinicius Jr and Diego Simeone continued their odd rivalry in the Madrid derby, but it didn’t finish there.
Vinicius scored twice in a 3-2 win for Real Madrid over Atletico Madrid, and after a late matchwinner he was substituted and clashed with Simeone again.
The Atleti coach alerted the referee to the small provocation, but it was nothing compared to their last meeting.
During another win for Real in the Supercopa semi-finals, Simeone was seen taunting Vinicius from the touchline, with Movistar claiming he was saying: ‘Florentino Perez wants you out’.
Simeone was referring to media speculation about the Brazilian’s future, and he later apologised to both the player and president.
However, Vinicius didn’t forget.
Speaking post-match, he said: “The president – Florentino Pérez – always tells me I have to score two goals and today I scored two, they’re for him.”
Adding more after his takedown of Simeone, he finished: “I’m very happy because I’ve worked all season for matches like these.
“And when this moment in the season arrives… I don’t know what happens to me, I always improve. I always score and provide assists.”
