There was one surprise at Marseille’s 125th anniversary match, the appearance of Joey Barton.
The one season not-such-a-wonder, was invited along for fun and games at the Vélodrome despite his chequered past.
He even took part in a legends match, despite making just 33 appearances for the Ligue 1 side on loan in the 2012/23 season.
In fact, the word past is generous, as on March 25 Barton was found guilty of assault by beating after pushing his wife to the floor and kicking her in the head, as per the BBC.
Barton, who was the manager of Bristol Rovers at the time, was given a 12-week suspended prison sentence.
Mrs Barton was left with a lump on her forehead and a bleeding nose, the court previously heard.
