Every match Endrick plays is now the subject of media focus, but he’s now in a place where even his good performances cause issues.
The Real Madrid loanee scored in an important 1-1 draw away at Celta Vigo in the Europa League that gives OL the upper-hand in their last 16 tie.
Pre-match his coach, Paulo Fonseca, asked for more balance on the Brazilian sensation.
“You demand a lot from Endrick,” he said. “We need to be more balanced in our player evaluations.
“When Endrick scores a goal, the criticism is very positive, saying he was very good.
“When he doesn’t score, the criticism of Endrick is very harsh, in my opinion. We all need to be balanced, and I try to be too.
“Do you think he just arrives and is the solution to all the team’s problems? It’s true he’s in the media spotlight, everyone’s talking about him because he played for Real Madrid. But you have to understand a few things.
“When he scores, he’s the best, and when he doesn’t score or doesn’t have a great game, it’s a disaster?
“I think we need to be more balanced. And as a coach who works with Endrick every day, I have to be the first to understand the situation.”
Endrick’s good games are now a problem
However, despite Fonseca suggesting Endrick is ‘the best’ when he scores, that wasn’t the case after the draw with Celta.
Leading RMC Sport pundit Daniel Riolo backed up numerous pundits saying the striker is too selfish.
“Endrick is driving me crazy, he’s tiring me out, and I didn’t think he’d tire me out so quickly,” the Frenchman said.
“I wonder if at some point he’s going to ruin matches by trying to do everything himself.
“You get the feeling that it costs him to pass the ball. When he makes his cross for Yaremchuk, you get the feeling that it costs him dearly to pass the ball.
If he doesn’t make that shot, you lose the match 1-0, you have a headache and you hit him because he wanted to shoot non-stop.”
What does Endrick make of all this?
Endrick recently said fame is the worst thing that can happen to someone, and has since said he finds the media focus difficult.
He explained: “No one should feel sorry for me or pat me on the head. Sometimes I wonder: why did so many media outlets focus on me?
“I didn’t ask for this. There are situations that cross the line.”
Luckily for him, he’s only in France for a couple more months, and then back to the peace and quiet in Madrid…
