Despite being one of the most successful players in Real Madrid’s history with 23 titles, only two teammates turned up for Lucas Vazquez’s farewell ceremony.
The versatile 34-year-old held his goodbye at Valdebebas and understandably many of his colleagues were on holiday with only a short break after the Club World Cup.
Yet that didn’t stop Kylian Mbappe, who reportedly cut his holiday short to return to Madrid and say his farewells.
There he was joined by just one other teammate, current back-up goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.
Vazquez’s long-time teammate Marcelo also attended, as Vazquez said: “Dear Real Madrid fans, it’s been almost two decades since I arrived at Valdebebas at 16 years old full of dreams and excitement to wear this shirt.
“Every step was a gift, and over time, Real Madrid became my home. We’ve experienced unforgettable nights, 23 titles, and moments that will always be etched in my memory.
“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to the president, board of directors, staff, coaches, teammates, and above all, to the fans. You always pushed me to give a little more.
“Today, after more than 400 matches, I have to say goodbye to the club of my life, but I leave with peace of mind, certain that I have given my all. I have always been aware of the responsibility and privilege that comes with defending this badge,” he continued.
“I’ve enjoyed every game, every training session, every trip… and if this journey has taught me anything, it’s that only you decide how far you can go.
“I’m leaving Real Madrid, but Real Madrid will never leave me. Wherever I go, I will proudly say that I had the honour of playing for the best team in the world. Thank you for joining me on the most beautiful journey of my life. Hala Madrid and nothing else.”
