The final Portuguese Clasico of the season ended 2-2 between Benfica and FC Porto, leaving Jose Mourinho to again steal the headlines.
Benfica came from 2-0 down to claim a rather useless point as Mourinho’s former side Porto now have a clear path to the Primeira Liga title.
The comeback may be enough for Mourinho to have saved some form of pride, but he again trashed his reputation with some ludicrous full-time scenes.
After Leandro Barreiro’s equaliser in the final minutes Mourinho booted a ball towards the Porto bench and after an almighty tussle he was sent off.
Leaving the pitch he was seen making a ‘small’ gesture towards his old club, interpreted as a comment on manhood.
Speaking post-match, Mourinho said: “The referee says he sent me off because I kicked a ball towards the Porto bench, which is completely false.
“I don’t know if it was three, four or five times, but I’ve done it many times at the Estádio da Luz – after we score, I kick the ball into the stands. A way to celebrate and give the ball to the lucky fan.
“I know I’m not very good technically, but it was meant for the stands.”
Mourinho claims he was called a ‘traitor’
Mourinho then confirmed that his gesture was towards Lucho Gonzalez, a Porto legend who joined the club shortly after he left for Chelsea.
Mourinho said he was called a traitor, and when asked who by, he responded: “Lucho. But it wasn’t just once, it was 20 or 30 times.
“When he went to Marseille, was he a traitor? A traitor to what? He could have insulted me in a way that I would have accepted better, but I think it was an attack on my professionalism, which is something I value so much.
“Wherever we are, we go all out. I was a little disappointed in the sense that he’s a professional like me, he’s played for different teams. I didn’t understand the traitor thing.”
