The Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation have given Jose Mourinho a one-match and 11 day ban.
The Benfica coach was sent off at the end of the 2-2 Primeira Liga draw with FC Porto when all hell broke loose on the touchlines.
Mourinho was seen booting a ball into the stands and then when the Porto bench responded, he got in a high profile exchange with Lucho Gonzalez.
The referee’s report read: “When his team scored, he deliberately left the technical area to act provocatively, running towards the opposing team’s substitutes’ bench and kicking a ball towards the stands, creating a conflict between the benches.”
The delegates report added: “In the 91st minute, following the visitors’ second goal, Benfica’s coach, José Mourinho, ran towards the midfield and kicked a ball that was on a cone towards the stands.
“This behaviour triggered an adverse reaction from the visiting team’s substitutes’ and supplementary benches, causing an altercation between members of the two benches.”
Porto’s Gonzalez also suspended
Much of the post-match focus was not on the ball kick but on the exchange between Mourinho and Gonzalez, who joined Porto as a player in 2005 just after the Portuguese left for Chelsea.
Mourinho claimed Gonzalez called him a traitor ’50 times’ while he could be seen making a ‘small’ gesture with his fingers in response.
The disciplinary report also noted the incident and gave a further ban to the Porto coach involved.
The disciplinary report also reveals another part of the argument between Mourinho and Lucho.
According to the FPF delegate’s report, “In the 92nd minute, after the referee sent off the two sports agents, visiting team coach José Mourinho and visiting delegate Luis González, at the entrance to the tunnel leading to the changing rooms.
“Coach José Mourinho approached delegate Luis González, making a gesture with his index finger hitting his thumb and repeatedly saying ‘you’re small’, to which the delegate replied ‘you’re a traitor’.
“This situation provoked an altercation between several individuals who were trying to separate the aforementioned sports agents.”
Gonzalez has been given one game and eight days, in contrast to Mourinho’s one game and 11 days.
In Mourinho’s case he will miss Sunday’s game against Arouca and then Vitoria Guimarães.
In addition to the suspension, Mourinho is also subject to two fines, totalling 5355 euros.
The draw meant that Porto stayed a massive seven points clear of third-placed Benfica at the top of the league with nine games to play.
Benfica have already been without their coach this season, following a suspension for the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie against Real Madrid.
