Robin van Persie is on the brink at Feyenoord, and he can’t even scroll Instagram to get away from it.
The former Netherlands striker was given a stay of execution after two dire results saw their Champions League hopes drawn into doubt.
Feyenoord are now in a battle to hold onto their top two spot, and Van Persie is getting it in the neck.
His tactics have been barely distinguishable and the signing of Raheem Sterling has called his decision making into question.
Van Persie is well aware of the pressure, and admitted he can’t to much to avoid it.
“When I look at Instagram, it sometimes feels like I’m sticking my head in a trash can,” he said at his press conference.
“Then I often quickly scroll on to the next video; that’s just how it is. It’s part of life, the life I choose.”
Van Persie pleads with fans
Van Persie also tried to send a message to the fans, but it’s one that they likely won’t hear after their ‘f*** off Robin’ chants.
“Everyone has the right to show their emotions,” he added.
“But it is important that players feel supported. It would help a lot if the atmosphere were such that everyone coming to watch the match stood behind the players.
“That is how De Kuip should be. Banners and things like that don’t help.”
Defending results given the team’s injuries, he finished: “If you look at everything that has happened, we are where we belong.
“Should we have picked up more points? Yes, I think so, despite all the challenges.”
