Jamal Musiala’s return from injury for Bayern Munich isn’t impressing Didi Hamann.
The German attack was out since the summer’s Club World Cup with a broken leg, returning in January and making nine appearances, only two of which were as a starter.
As things stand he looks like he will struggle to force his way into an attacking three of Luis Diaz, Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry.
That was the case in a 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund where he came off the bench and failed to impress again.
With the evidence not great after his injury, prominent pundit Didi Hamann has sounded the alarm bells.
Bayern Munich’s Michael Jordan
“I think Jamal Musiala is lacking a lot. Right now, it’s an attempt to integrate him,” the former Bayern Munich man said.
“He was obviously out for several months, which shouldn’t be forgotten.
“I don’t think he was an option for the starting lineup against Dortmund, and he probably won’t be in the coming weeks either. I don’t know what’s going on.
“Of course, you need time. But he was given a contract last year that puts him on par with, or even ahead of, the England captain Harry Kane, who scores braces every week.
“When you have that status, when you’re the highest-paid player, then you’re also the most important one, and you have two or three games to get back into the rhythm. He’s the Michael Jordan of Bayern Munich. That’s how much he’s paid.”
Hamann added: “I wonder when he’ll be able to help the team again, or even want to.
“I understand that the club wants Musiala to play, but if we’re going by performance, you could also say: Well, actually, in For the incredibly important game against Dortmund, Lennart Karl has to come ahead of Musiala because he’s simply on a different level performance-wise.
“I also understand why Vincent Kompany is bringing Musiala in. But now you have to manage all of this. That’s not an easy task.”
