Joan Laporta’s re-election campaign at Barcelona has hit another snag with Xavi endorsing his main rival, Victor Font.
The club legend, who both played and coached under Laporta, made a surprise visit to Font’s campaign headquarters.
Hopefuls need 2,337 signatures from members in order to become an official candidate, and Xavi was happy to be snapped giving his.
The midfielder, who left as head coach in 2024, has previously appeared at an event held by Font, but this is now a clear move against Laporta.
The three-time president was hoping to stay in his post as secure a fourth term, but it’s clear his rivals are doing everything to stop that with a number of PR campaigns.
One from Marc Ciria even saw giant Messi banners erected, mocking Laporta’s strained relationship with the club’s greatest-ever player.

Laporta recently opened up on what went wrong with Messi during his 2021 departure, but the Argentine’s refusal to return to the club while he’s in place certainly isn’t helping.
