Long painted as some sort of French Richard Williams, Wilfrid Mbappe has denied any sort of unrelenting upbringing of his sons.
While Kylian is the captain of France and the leader of Real Madrid, Ethan is now making waves at Lille, and there have long been claims their parents were the kind that would do anything to see their kids make it.
Responding to the often cited theory, Wilfrid said on Canal+: “What is the Mbappé project? It’s a father supporting his son in a dream, an activity
“But we all do it then. We all have Mbappé projects. I didn’t get up at 6 a.m. to go run laps of the pitch, I didn’t do extra training. I didn’t do all that.”
He added: “Sometimes I run into parents at the pitches, they’re in jeans, a whistle in hand, wearing shirts, making their kids run laps, practice shots, do sit-ups.
“And they tell me, ‘I do the same as you.’ I don’t know what this myth is all about.
“For me, it was just fun, and when things got serious, I had to bring something else to the table because he was going to make a career out of it.”
