Vincent Kompany has tried to fully settle the Lennart Karl debacle with a thoughtful but also amusing take on the situation.
Bayern Munich‘s Karl caused an almighty media storm at a fan event when he described Bayern as a ‘very big club’ but said his ‘dream’ was to play for Real Madrid.
The teen superstar has apologised to his teammates and club executives, but it may have taken them less time to get over it than the fans.
Recalling how the incident went down at the training ground, Kompany said: “His teammates teased him a bit, which was funny.
“I tried to be the only person who didn’t talk to him about it. Max, Christoph, TikTok, Instagram, Bild, kicker, Sky…
“Everyone has an opinion, so I thought I was the only one who wouldn’t talk to him about it.”
Kompany added: “If you have someone who gets caught in the storm, as has happened or can happen to all professionals and former professionals at some point, it’s important to look at the bigger picture, the bigger picture, the context.
“What does 17-year-old Lennart Karl do every day? He trains very, very hard, trains well. How many 17-year-olds do that? He does.
“He works very hard for the team, defensively, not just offensively. Everything he delivers every day, in training, in team meetings, is at a very high level.
“Then he goes out there, scores two goals in Salzburg , has an assist… Okay, he may have made a small communication error, but in my opinion, he’s still focused on the right things.”
