German fans have been protesting RB Leipzig for the past decade, and they’re still showing no signs of letting up in 2024.
The Red-Bull owned club are the most hated in Germany for many reasons including their ownership structure and non-existent history – having been founded in 2009.
Despite the constant opposition, they’ve progressed up the leagues, finishing runners-up in the Bundesliga in 2017 and 2021 before winning their first major trophy with the DFB Pokal in 2022.
Last season at Heidenheim foul smelling acid was dumped in the away end, and there have been more protests before this season has even got underway.
Fans of FC Rot-Weiss Erfurt have successfully got a friendly with Leipzig cancelled through protest and it looks like there could be more to come.
SV Babelsberg’s management are now facing a similar challenge from their own ultra group.
In a statement, supporters said: “The principles and structures underlying RB Leipzig’s actions threaten football as we know and love it.”
